Dutasteride is a medication used to treat BENIGN PROSTATIC HYPERPLASIA by reducing the size of the enlarged PROSTATE GLAND. It works by blocking the conversion of testosterone into dihydrotestosterone (DHT), a hormone involved in prostate growth, thereby improving urinary symptoms and reducing the risk of urinary retention or prostate surgery.
