dopamine

a catecholamine derived from DOPA and an intermediate in the synthesis of NORADRENALINE . (Catecholamines comprise benzene, hydroxyl groups and an amine group and are physiologically important in the functioning of the NERVOUS SYSTEM , mainly as NEUROTRANSMITTERS ). It is found mainly in the BASAL GANGLIA of the BRAIN and a deficiency is typical in PARKINSONISM .
