delta wave

one of the four types of BRAIN waves and the slowest of the four. Delta waves are associated with deep sleep. If delta waves are seen in the ELECTROENCEPHALOGRAM of a waking adult, brain damage is indicated, e.g. as with epileptics and around brain tumours.
