a term used to describe a substance that damages or destroys cells. Cytotoxic drugs are used in the treatment of various forms of cancer and act by inhibiting cell division. They also damage normal cells and their use has to be carefully regulated in each individual patient. They may be used in combination with RADIOTHERAPY or on their own.
