CT scanner

CT stands for Computerized Tomography a diagnostic technique in radiology whereby 'slices' of the body are recorded using a special X-ray scanner known as a CT scanner. The information is integrated by computer to give an image in cross - section of the tissue under investigation. The technique is used for investigations of the brain, e.g. if a tumour, haematoma or abscess is present. Whole - body scans may be required for a number of conditions, but are particularly useful when malignancy is present, supplying information about the position and outline of a tumour and the extent of spread of cancer.
