coronary bypass graft

a surgical operation that is carried out when one or more of the coronary arteries have become narrowed by disease ( ATHEROMA ). A section of vein from a leg is grafted in to bypass the obstruction, and this major operation is usually successful and greatly improves a person's quality of life.
