the end of the backbone ( SPINAL COLUMN ), which consists of four fused and reduced VERTEBRAE and corresponds to the tail of other mammals. The coccyx is surrounded by muscle and joins with the SACRUM , a further group of fused vertebrae, which is part of the PELVIS .
