is caused fundamentally by any condition that depletes blood oxygen resulting in excessive and/or laboured breathing to gain more air. The causes are numerous, ranging from lung diseases or conditions ( PNEUMONIA , EMPHYSEMA , BRONCHITIS ) to heart conditions and obesity. In childern, narrowing of the air passages is a cause, as is ASTHMA .
