B-cell

A B-cell, also called a B-LYMPHOCYTE, is a type of WHITE BLOOD CELL that develops from stem cells in the BONE MARROW. B-cells are an important part of the adaptive IMMUNE SYSTEM. When activated by foreign substances called ANTIGENS, some B-cells mature into PLASMA CELLS that produce ANTIBODIES, while others become memory B-cells that help provide faster immune responses during future exposures.

B-cells are immune cells that make antibodies to help the body recognize and fight infections.
