arbovirus
Arbovirus refers to a group of VIRUSES transmitted between hosts by arthropods such as MOSQUITOES and TICKS.
Arbovirus, short for arthropod-borne virus, describes VIRUSES that are spread through the bites of infected arthropods such as MOSQUITOES, TICKS, and sandflies. Many arboviruses are RNA VIRUSES and circulate between arthropod vectors and animal hosts. Human arbovirus infections may cause FEVER, RASH, joint disease, or inflammation of the BRAIN. Examples include viruses causing DENGUE, YELLOW FEVER, ZIKA VIRUS disease, WEST NILE VIRUS infection, and ROSS RIVER FEVER.
Arboviruses are viruses spread mainly by insects such as mosquitoes and ticks.
