aneuploidy

a condition in which an abnormal number of chromosomes are present in the cells of an affected individual. The number of chromosomes is either more or less than the normal exact multiple of the HAPLOID number (half the full complement) and is characteristic of DOWN'S SYNDROME and TURNER'S SYNDROME .
