Medical Term
aminoglutethimide
n an AROMATASE INHIBITOR used in the treatment of advanced breast and prostate cancer and Cushing's disease due to a malignant tumour. Because it inhibits synthesis of adrenal steroids (medical adrenalectomy), aminoglutethimide is usually given with corticosteroid replacement therapy. It is administered by mouth; side-effects, which are largely dose-related, may include drowsiness, dizziness, and a transient skin rash.
